MASK GATHERING

Program Overview

Masks are our reality right now. Twirl and partners have taken that reality and to explore deeper into the rich creativity, history, culture and emotional significance of mask-making and wearing.

By taking a more expansive view of “the mask”, we hope to add depth and positivity to a topic that is pervasive and at times divisive in our lives today. This project provides a playful, creative, fun exploration of masks, past and present. It offers tools for checking in on our feelings and an outlet for expressing them. It culminates in a community creativity project to connect, uplift and inspire us all in these isolating times!

Make your own mask

This anthropological and artistic journey culminates with an opportunity to create and share your own mask for the Mask Gathering - a virtual display of masks made by and for our community to celebrate the many faces and feelings of Taos.

See our online gallery for a selection of awesome masks made by our community!

Unmasking the Mask Virtual Event

Twirl and the TCA combined forces for a virtual event: Unmasking The Mask with Amber Vasquez and Liana Bayles of Twirl. Together with a wonderful lineup of local artists, professionals and collaborators, they shared Twirl's Mask Gathering project for the entire community.
